In order for VATESOL to continue to provide excellent professional development and networking opportunities for TESOL professionals around the Commonwealth, we seek enthusiastic and engaged members to serve on the board of directors. We currently have fewer than half of the board positions filled.  Please consider nominating yourself for one of the vacant positions.

VATESOL is seeking nominations for the following vacant positions.  


2nd Vice President (4 year term--Presidential Track)

Treasurer (1 year term)

Newsletter Editor (2 Year term)

Teacher Trainer (TT) Special Interest Group Chair (2 Year Term)

Academic English Program (AEP) Special Interest Group Chair (2 Year Term)

K-12 Special Interest Group Chair (2 Year Term)

Adult Education Special Interest Group Chair (2 Year Term)

Communications Coordinator (2 Year Term)

Legislative  Advocacy) Liaison (2 Year Term) 

Webmaster (2 Year Term)

*Based on recommended changes to AOIs.  Additions/Amendments will be made after AOIs are approved, if needed.


Applicants must be members of VATESOL in good standing with a strong interest in advancing research, networking and professional development opportunities for Virginia TESOL professionals.  To renew or begin membership, click here.

Board members are required to participate in monthly virtual meetings and 1-2 face-to-face meetings per year. On average, board members spend 5-15 hours per month on board-related tasks.  During event planning, the amount of time dedicated to board activities may increase significantly.   Read position descriptions and expectations here.  

NOMINATIONS (Open August 18-September 3)

Nominations will be accepted from August 18-September 3. Voting will be open (electronically via Google Forms from September      5-13.  Newly elected officials will be announced at the conference, September 19th, 2019.  To nominate yourself for a position, please complete the VATESOL Board of Directors Nomination Form.    The following information is requested on the nomination form:

  • Professional Affiliation and Role
  • Institutional Support:  Does your current employer allow time for professional service?
  • Leadership Training: List previous leadership training/experience that may be relevant to the position you are applying for.  Include details such as type of training/experience, focus, and dates of service.
  • Key Qualities and Strengths: Describe the qualities and strengths that you would bring to the VATESOL Board of Directors.
  • Biographical Statement: Give a brief summary of your professional biography.
  • Reference(s): Please give contact information of 1-2 professional references (current VATESOL members preferred).
